Home Alone

You have all seen the movie Home Alone...right?
Well... there is this one part in the movie that I think of on a daily basis...OK, hourly basis. You know the part when the van is there to pick the family up to take them to the airport? I know what your thinking, and NO, its not the part where we wake up late and are in a rush to get out the door. (Only half that is true, I HATE to be late, but the rush part is right.) It's the part where the neighbor boy comes over to talk to the van driver...remember it? Here, let me refresh your memory...

"I’m Mitch Murphy I live across the street. You guys going out of town? We’re going to Orlando Florida, well actually first we’re going to Missouri to pick up my Grandma. Did you know the McCallisters are going to France? Do you know if it’s cold there? Do these vans get good gas mileage?"

Yep, that the part. My oldest child ask more questions and just NEVER stops talking... not even in his sleep. I know I am a total hypocrite because for so long all I wanted was for this boy to talk to me, to ask me a question, to answer my questions. Maybe its the whole be careful what you wish for thing, or maybe he is just making up for the 4 years he missed out on. Either way, it's exhausting!

I want really BADLY to be the greatest mom and listen to every bit and answer EVERY SINGLE QUESTION...but I'm no where close. More times than I would like to admit I find my self saying things like "I don't know, Garrett" or "that's a good question for you Dad" or "Garrett, I'm trying to _____ right now. Can you wait a second?" Now that the cats out of the bag and you all know that I am not the perfect mother, I will go ahead and admit that I have even found myself listening to my Ipod just so I can point to the ear buds and say "I can't hear you." Before you start to feel too bad for him you should know this doesn't stop him from talking!

All that said, I am thankful that he is mine and I'm the one he gets to talk to, and as long as I don't start answering the way the van driver does we should be fine.
Let me refresh your memory again...
"Gee kid I don’t know hit the road"
