Party Shoes

Gavin's birthday is Friday and this kid loves The Cat In The Hat so we decided to let that be the theme of his party. We found these awesome shoes for him to wear to his party.

When you have shoes like this, you need a cool shirt to wear to your party...so we made this.

He will be too cool at his party! Is it Friday yet?

Hey, It's Almost His Birthday

Last week we went to Pancho's for dinner and they sang to someone for their birthday. Ever since Gavin has been telling us "I go Pancho's. I wear cowboy hat. Sing Happy birthday to Gavin." We figured it was almost his birthday so we celebrated!

Grant took a turn too...it's almost his birthday too!

Pumpkins

We picked out a few pumpkins and had a little Saturday morning fun!

Cast...It's The New Black

Who gets excited about a cast?
Garrett does! This kid was so excited to his thumb was broken so he could get a cast. He only had one requirement...it had to be Green!

If Its Not One Thing

...Its his brother!

Yesterday, after being up ALL night, and spending ALL morning at the doctor with the spider bitten kid...I finally got the kiddos down for a nap. I was thinking if the slept till time to go pick up Garrett from school, we could all get a long nap.

I hadn't been sitting for 10 minutes when the phone rang. It was the school nurse saying Garrett had been hurt during a soccer game at recess. She told me his thumb was swelling and it had already started turning purple. So, I picked him up and back to visit Dr. L again.

waiting to see the doctor

waiting for x-ray

yep! It's broken...

Here is his make shift splint until he can go see ortho and get his cast. I actually cant believe we made it almost 8 years before we got a broken bone in this house. With 3 boys that's got to be some kind of record.

Spider Man, Spider Man...

does whatever a spider can...

Last Sunday, Grant got bit by a spider...
a nasty Brown Recluse spider.
This is it a few minutes after it happened...

Doesn't look so bad right?
By the next morning it was nasty, huge, red and swollen. It looked seriously nasty! So, off the the doctor we went.
Dr. "Its definitely a spider bite"
Grant "Well, how become I don't have my powers yet"
This was the beginning of our new obsession. He has climbed walls, tyred to spray web and talked about nothing else. He even wants to change his party to a Spider Man theme.

Those were the good times of the week. We had to make 4 trips to the doctor to have it drained, or as Dr. L says "to get the spider goo out" Not fun, this required
1 doctor with needles, tweezers, and lots of squeezing and draining.
2 nurses, 1 to hold the feet and 1 to hold the head.
1 mommy to hold this hands.

There was LOTS of crying and screaming going on. He cried so hard he had an asthma attack and has purple freckles all over his face. Our sweet Dr. L was so sweet. She called to check on him and was SERIOUSLY worried about him...this is why we love her so!

30

So...last year at this time I was freaking out because 30 was getting so close. You know whats worse than being almost 30? Being almost 31. Its one thing to say your 30, but to be in your 30's is a whole different story! I came across this and thought I would share. Some of these I have done, or figured out...some of them, not so much.

By 30, you should have:
1. One old boyfriend you can imagine going back to and one who reminds you of how far you’ve come.
2. A decent piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in your family.
3. Something perfect to wear if the employer or man of your dreams wants to see you in an hour.
4. A purse, a suitcase and an umbrella you’re not ashamed to be seen carrying.
5. A youth you’re content to move beyond.
6. A past juicy enough that you’re looking forward to retelling it in your old age.
7. The realization that you are actually going to have an old age—and some money set aside to help fund it.
8. An e-mail address, a voice mailbox and a bank account—all of which nobody has access to but you.
9. A résumé that is not even the slightest bit padded.
10. One friend who always makes you laugh and one who lets you cry.
11. A set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill and a black lace bra.
12. Something ridiculously expensive that you bought for yourself, just because you deserve it.
13. The belief that you deserve it.
14. A skin-care regimen, an exercise routine and a plan for dealing with those few other facets of life that don’t get better after 30.
15. A solid start on a satisfying career, a satisfying relationship and all those other facets of life that do get better.

By 30, you should know:
1. How to fall in love without losing yourself.
2. How you feel about having kids.
3. How to quit a job, break up with a man and confront a friend without ruining the friendship.
4. When to try harder and when to walk away.
5. How to kiss in a way that communicates perfectly what you would and wouldn’t like to happen next.
6. The names of: the secretary of state, your great-grandmother and the best tailor in town.
7. How to live alone, even if you don’t like to.
8. How to take control of your own birthday.
9. That you can’t change the length of your calves, the width of your hips or the nature of your parents.
10. That your childhood may not have been perfect, but it’s over.
11. What you would and wouldn’t do for money or love.
12. That nobody gets away with smoking, drinking, doing drugs or not flossing for very long.
13. Who you can trust, who you can’t and why you shouldn’t take it personally.
14. Not to apologize for something that isn’t your fault.
15. Why they say life begins at 30.

Bane

I did not know the sweet face of this little boy...
I do not know his parents...
I do know a few members of his family and a few of his friends...
They would post about this sweet boy on their blogs and I would read about him... then I started reading his blog.

I have thought about him and his family many times...I have talked about him and his family many times.

I never intended to post anything about this game or him, simply because, what would I say... I don't know them and they don't know me.

I did however intend to play this Bane Bane game and keep it to myself...but that was before I knew how they would inspire me on just how to play.

I have NEVER been so in awe of anyone. This mother and father are living what every parent would say is their worst fear. Yet, they bring hope to others, they lift up everyone around them, even people like me who they have never met. Through their darkest days they have brought light to others. After I read their story, I feel I have been changed forever. If they can be so brave to face each new day, then I can
be brave enough to post on my blog and share their story and how it changed me.

I am blessed to be the mother of three gifts from God. These boys are my world and the greatest blessings I will ever know. Two of these blessing have birthdays in October. Tonight, I sat stressing about their birthday parties. Where to have it, when to have it, who to invite, what kind of theme to have. I took a break from the planning and stress and checked the blogs of my friends...that is when I read the story of how they plan to celebrate Bane's first birthday.

I read the story on their blog and cried. Here I was stressing over a party that my child will be at, and they are planning one that theirs won't, and their plan to do good to honor their baby. How much we all take for granted. I will not stress anymore... I will celebrate my son and honor theirs.

I am not ready just yet to say how this will happen. I do know what I plan to do and how I plan to do it, but I would rather share it with you when it happens.

I was given the gift of a son with a HUGE heart that cares for everyone. I shared
Bane's story with him tonight and how Bane's parents were helping others. He replied with "That's what community is all about" then he inspired me on how I would help with a comment he made. So, follow the link and read about Bane...I promise you will never be the same.
